How do you feel during this time of lockdown? How do you think this period will affect your art-making process or does it already have an impact on your productions?
I love being at home. This period of isolation has done me a lot of good. It is as if time has expanded. I find time to do everything. Since I’m also quite busy with meditation, the days have been more productive for me in terms of finding myself.

Do you keep producing works during this time? If so, how do you produce under the changing conditions, do the materials you use differ?
Yes, on three different weaving looms I’m producing three different pieces at the same time. This was never the case before. I’m using the materials in my storage because I don’t want to go out. As my storage starts to get empty, I am getting lighter internally as well.

What are you dreaming of doing following COVID-19?
To continue working without leaving home for a while. Time will show what will happen afterwards. Now I’m just producing a lot.

Are there any differences between your plans before and after COVID-19?
My exhibitions in Lisbon, New York and Colombia were postponed. Everything seems to be turning into digital media now. I will try to keep up with this.

What changes occurred in your daily routine?
Siesta has entered my life. I’ve started to give online yoga classes every morning. Now I have two more weaving looms. And I have also bought a television for myself.

Karantina döneminde nasıl hissediyorsunuz; bu süreç üretimlerinize nasıl yansıdı ya da yansıyacak?
Evde olmayı çok seviyorum. Bana çok iyi geldi bu süreç. Zaman genişledi sanki, her şeyi yapacak vakit buluyorum. Benim işim aynı zamanda meditasyon olduğu için kendimi arayışım açısından günler daha da verimli geçiyor.

Bu süreçte üretmeye devam ediyor musunuz? Evet ise değişen şartlar altında üretim şekliniz, kullandığınız malzemeler farklılık gösteriyor mu?
Evet, 3 ayrı tezgâhta 3 farklı işi aynı anda yapıyorum. Bu daha önce hiç olmamıştı. Dışarı çıkmak istemediğim için depomdaki malzemeleri kullanıyorum. Depom boşalmaya başladıkça ben de içsel olarak hafifliyorum.

Bu süreç bitimindeki hayalleriniz neler?
Bir süre daha evden çıkmadan çalışmaya devam etmek. Gerçekten sonrasını zaman gösterecek. Şimdi sadece bol bol üretiyorum.

COVID-19 öncesindeki planlarınız ile sonrası arasında farklılık var mı?
Lizbon, New York ve Kolombiya sergilerim ertelendi. Artık her şey dijital ortama dönüyor gibi görünüyor. Buna ayak uydurmaya çalışacağım.

Günlük rutinlerinizde ne gibi değişiklikler oldu?
Öğle uykuları hayatıma girdi. Her sabah aralıksız online yoga dersleri vermeye başladım. Artık 2 tezgâhım daha var. Bir de televizyon aldım kendime.

As an artist, how would you describe the current situation of the world?
We are cleaning ourselves up. Even though the borders seem to be drawn, I’m content about the knowledge that everything is one with the opposite. Now the borders have been lifted. We are all connected by invisible networks. Not only with people but with animals, plants and nature. Just like nature, we are also being purified. Digital media has started to be used for its real purpose. We remember once again, that we are responsible to each other.

Has the current isolation given you the opportunity to do or create something that you haven’t had a chance before?
It certainly has. This time of isolation has done me a lot of good.

Unfortunately, your works cannot be seen physically in this period of time. Can you tell us about your new works conceptually?
I have started to think about the difference between reality and truth. I was weaving real faces before. Those were faces that share in their gaze the emotions they feel with the audience. Faces that connect with the viewer. Nowadays, I’ve started to work on pieces that are related to a feeling that lies in everyone; the feeling of being special. Once again, I am observing the present and listening to my friends. I am trying to define the works I will weave with lines and again, spaces.

Sanatçı gözünden dünyanın içinde bulunduğu durumu nasıl yorumlarsınız?
Temizleniyoruz. Sınırlar çizilmiş gibi görünse de her şeyin zıttı ile bir olduğu bilgisi daha da içime siniyor. Artık sınırlar kalktı. Hepimiz birbirimize görünmez ağlarla bağlıyız. Hem de sadece insanlarla değil; hayvanlarla, bitkilerle, doğayla. Biz de doğa gibi temizleniyoruz. Dijital ortam gerçek amacıyla kullanılmaya başlandı. Birbirimize karşı sorumlu olduğumuzu hatırlıyoruz yeniden.

Sosyal izolasyon süreci, size yapmak istediğiniz ama zamansızlıktan dolayı yapamadığınız bir iş, üretim için zaman sağladı mı?
Kesinlikle sağladı. Bana çok iyi geldi bu süreç.

Bu süreçte eserleriniz maalesef somut olarak görülemeyecek, bu nedenle çalışmalarınızdan kavramsal ve biçimsel olarak bahsedebilir misiniz?
Gerçek ve hakikat arasındaki farkı düşünmeye başladım. Gerçek suretler dokuyordum daha önce. Bakışlarında hissettikleri duyguları izleyiciler ile paylaşan, izleyiciyle bağ kuran suretler. Şu sıralar herkesin içinde yatan özel olma hissi ile ilgili işler yapmaya başladım. Yine bugünü izliyorum, yine arkadaşlarımı dinliyorum. Dokuyacağım işleri çizgiler ve yine boşluklarla tanımlamaya çalışıyorum.
