In the group exhibition “Kein Zustand, sondern System”, Anna Laudel Düsseldorf presents eight international artists: Flóra Borsi, Ekin Su Koç, Brigitte Spiegeler, Anke Eilergerhard, Ardan Özmenoğlu, Tuğçe Diri, Ruth Biller and Irmak Dönmez. From 13 June to 16 August 2025, the exhibition presents a multi-layered investigation on the themes of body, reminiscence, and personal perspective. The exhibition title refers to the fact that social and cultural structures often co-determine individual expectations and experiences and encourages us to consciously reflect on these.
The works presented by the artists analyse the construction of identity in art in various ways: Flóra Borsi creates surreal visual worlds that explore the relationship between self-image and emotion, while Ekin Su Koç addresses issues of migration, identity and cultural localisation in her works. In her interdisciplinary works, Brigitte Spiegeler illuminates the fleeting character of time, memory and physicality and translates these into multi-layered visual narratives.
In her sculptures made from highly pigmented polyorganosiloxane, Anke Eilergerhard playfully and critically negotiates traditional perceptions of femininity. Ardan Özmenoğlu combines social themes with cultural references in her colourful mixed-media works, reflecting social role models in today’s context.
Tuğçe Diri‘s works are dedicated to the inner confrontation with cultural and social developments through a combination of fragmentary and abstract elements.
Ruth Biller‘s oeuvre focuses on the deconstruction of body images and the fracturing of identity. In doing so, she blurs the boundaries between reality and dream. Irmak Dönmez‘s ceramics reflect the social codification of the female body. The focus is on the breast—as a symbol of sexual desire and nurturing—whose visual and cultural attributes she critically analyses.

“Kein Zustand, sondern System” opens up a space for dialogue in which personal experiences and social issues interact, and the complexity of existence becomes visible in the contemporary art context. The works demonstrate that identity is not a strictly individual feeling, but is characterised by a system of social categorisation that needs to be challenged.
